Cruising the Caribbean in SBR

Camille Esterman

When the temperatures rise in AZ, many residents dream of island adventures surrounded by cool, blue waters. An invitation to a Caribbean cruise party, hosted by Jennifer Black and Steve Hanns, provided the perfect opportunity to mentally enjoy an escape from the heat.

Caribbean masks and balloons greeted party goers when they arrived at Jennifer and Steve’s dock. Many guests were dressed in island attire and enjoyed an umbrella-topped mai-tai cocktail while listening to the music provided by SBR resident guitarist, Rick Still.

Everyone contributed to a tropical buffet, which included: mango salsa and chips, Caribbean corn and bean salsa, Caribbean and tropical meatballs, chili Caribbean shrimp, Caribbean shrimp spread, Caribbean rice, corn bread, jerk chicken, jerk pork, curried chicken, tropical chicken skewers, veggie kabobs and fruit salads. Caribbean rum cake and key lime pie completed the evening’s taste of the islands.

As the sun went down and the sky filled with bright stars, everyone agreed that even though we have no access to the sea, we still live in paradise. Thank you, Jennifer and Steve, for a night to remember.
