Derby Day celebrated in style

While the weather at Churchill Downs was dismal, the Kentucky Derby party co-hosted by Terri and Bill Stewart and Kathy and Mike Pritchett was a show-stopping event. Guests arrived dressed for the occasion: several gentlemen wearing bow-ties, jackets and fedoras; most of the ladies decked out in stylish outfits, decorated hats and fascinators.

A mint julip toast preceded the race, which is billed as the ‘most exciting two minutes in sports’ but turned out to be the most controversial derby in history.

While enjoying a potluck feast, guests voted on the best hats. Prizes were given to Debbie Nixon (1st place), Amanda Kaminski (2nd place) and Camille Esterman (3rd place). And a special round of applause was given for the most unusual hats – his and her ‘horseheads’ worn by Char and Dennis Eckmeyer.

Thank you to Debbie Nixon and Amanda Kaminski for taking photos.
