Great Apache Heritage Celebrations Tour – May 8-9

Arizona Pathfinders, a non-profit volunteer group of the Arizona Historical Society, is conducting a two-day tour of the Great Apache Heritage Celebrations at Fort Apache, on 8-9 May 2015. The first day we visit the Besh-Ba-Gowah Archeological Park in Globe, AZ then have lunch at DeMarcos restaurant in Globe, AZ. We then travel to Show Low, AZ and visit the Heritage Historic Museum. We spend the night at the Hon-Dah Resort Casino and Conference Center on the Mogollon Rim where we will check in and have a buffet dinner. The second day, after a full buffet breakfast, we travel to Fort Apache to view a remarkable event of Apache song and dance competition that draws more than 500 community members each year, plus arts and crafts and other cultural demonstrations. We will have a walking tour of the Fort Apache Historic District, which has 27 buildings and covers 288 acres. The oldest structure is General Crook’s cabin. Visit the Theodore Roosevelt School National Historic Landmark and the Fort Apache Museum. All meals are included, except lunch at the celebration where there will be many food vendors to choose from on your own. We will be back at the Arizona Historical Museum around 6:30 p.m.
