Helping to fight hunger

Nan Nasser

Mountain Shadows Presbyterian Church (MSPC) will participate in a program designed to raise awareness of hunger in our area and ways to help alleviate it in our geographic area. Since many of the congregants live in Pinal County, it became obvious that there is a serious problem with hunger in that area. In Pinal, one in every three children experiences hunger, the largest number in the state, and even in the nation.

The first Sunday of each month is a day to bring nonperishable food and hygiene items to church, all of which are being taken to the Tri-Community Food Bank in Mammoth. This food bank is 100% volunteer with one paid contractor. It operates a small thrift shop with proceeds helping to cover operating costs. Last year they distributed 3,518 food boxes to 10,000 people.

MSPC is located at 14240 N. Oracle Road in Catalina. The website is mountainshadowschurch.org and the phone number is 520-825-7858. Sunday services are at 10:00 a.m. followed by a time of fellowship.
