Life changes faster in senior communities. Since we live with an extreme concentration of aging adults, we have thrust upon us a unique perspective including life’s negatives. This “in your face” life change exposure may lead to depression, isolation and even desperation. Combating this with proven methods like exercise and socialization is important. Participation is a key to happiness and survival. When that happens, be open to reaching into the community for something new. Having a part to play within the community can be the antidote for inevitable blows we will all experience. Instead of dwelling on the negatives, let’s move on to different situations.

One choice is line dance: fun, social, mind and body healthy and out of the house. Consider that lessons may be your activity choice. Dancing with Rebecca gives you advantages: class size control, dances chosen for knowledge to dance anywhere, extensive review in each series and dances appropriate for your skills. For those who have physical limits/injuries, there are step and posture modifications provided for safety and comfort. Songs are chosen for lyrics (country is common because what’s more fun than tractors, trucks, beer, dogs or lost love) and come in all music types. Class gives ample time for the exercise and modest cost. Finally, there are three distinct skill levels to choose from so you can be comfortable dancing. Come have fun, learn and laugh with Rebecca in summer 2015.

Level 1 Beginners class is for those new to line dancing and for those whose age or speed is receding. For newcomers/modest pace dancers Level 1 is the best on Wednesdays. This summer you could also dance Level 1 Monday morning in SaddleBrooke.

Level 2 Easy Intermediate classes provide faster learning. Those with previous training may be able to enter here. Level 2 Wednesday at SB Ranch follow Level 1. Classes Monday afternoon or Tuesday morning are also open to Ranchers who can’t take class on Wednesday.

Level 3 Intermediate is most challenging with more complexity and a vigorous workout. Classes are Thursday and only available in SaddleBrooke at this time.

Saturday afternoon dance party sessions occur year round for Levels 2 and 3 in order to perfect skills, increase stamina and mainly for a lot of fun and laughter. Level 1 dance parties are on Thursday about noon.

It’s sign-up time for the summer series, which begins late July. If you’re gone for the season and plan to dance with Rebecca fall/winter, then get listed for a class fall ’15 and/or winter ’16. The level 2 group at the Ranch is already close to full. Provisions are always made for starting late due to travels so you could catch on starting May 27.

Classes are taught on a reservation only basis. For information on line dancing lessons, contact Rebecca Magdanz at [email protected] or phone 818-2656. Rebecca has been training and leading line dancers in SB since 2008.
