PhotoWorks visits Oracle’s Life Under the Oaks Lavender Farm

Arlene Wong

On June 13th, eleven members of the SBR PhotoWorks went on a photography field trip to the lavender farm in Oracle. It was a record-breaking hot day, and the cooler temps in the Oracle hills were welcomed. Carolyn Blair, owner of the Life Under the Oaks Lavender Farm and resident artist, greeted the group and gave us complete access to the lovely fields of lavender, her farm animals, all the buildings and many charming vignettes. With assistance from Carolyn, her daughters and dog, Amber, the group disbersed to various venues to capture images while the sun was still fairly low. Some of us lingered in the lavender fields among the butterflies and bees, while others focused on the rooster coup, or tried to take that perfect picture of the goats. The farm buildings and beautiful woodland setting further stimulated our creative juices.

PhotoWorks is a club promoting the art, science and fun of photography for the benefit and enjoyment of members and the SaddleBrooke Ranch community. All skill levels are welcome. The club offers monthly general meetings, special education and training sessions, weekly drop in open studio and field trips. Some past field trips have included the San Xavier del Bac, Pima Air Museum, barrios of Tucson and Boyce Thompson Arboretum. We also had several nature Meetups at Honeybee Canyon and Park Link Road. Past monthly meetings have included presentations and training on the exposure triangle, composition, painting with light, street photography, macro photography, shooting wild horses and more. (Monthly meetings are held September through May.) To inquire about PhotoWorks, please send an email to [email protected].

The lavender farm offers unique and beautiful surroundings for friends and visitors of all ages to gather and enjoy art, farm life and nature. There are many special events happening throughout the year at the farm including inspired farm to table dinners, open farm events and a studio/gift shop. If you’d like information about the lavender farm, please check out their website: www.lifeundertheoakslavenderfarm.com.

We hope to see more of our SBR neighbors on future field trips.
