In August the SBR Thursday Talks hosted Dr. Kim Tucker, Orthopedic Surgeon with Northwest Allied Physicians in Oro Valley. Dr. Tucker focused on how we can take better care of our knees to “Keep the Spring in Our Step.” She covered the anatomy of the knee, common causes of joint pain and some simple steps you can take to lessen the likelihood of a knee injury. She discussed effective non-surgical treatments for joint pain as well as the latest innovative joint replacement procedures.

Dr. Tucker is an engaging speaker with excellent presentation slides and a great sense of humor she interjects through her talk. She addressed many questions after her talk. The information presented gave many residents the information and confidence to move forward to greater wellness.

Prior to giving her talk, Dr. Tucker had a demonstration of a pickleball game to learn more about one of the fastest growing sports.

Dr. Tucker attended University of Arizona College of Medicine. Her internship and residency in Orthopedic Surgery was at the U of A. Her fellowship for Hip and Knee Replacement Surgery was at Maryland Adult Reconstructive Surgery.

Dr. Tucker believes in compassionate orthopedic care. She chose to specialize in Orthopedic Surgery because it enables her to help patients overcome joint pain, allowing them to return to their active lifestyles.

Dr. Tucker takes time to listen to her patients and recommends treatment options, making decisions with her patients, not for her patients.

Dr. Tucker uses innovative peri-operative pain management techniques, allowing patients to be more comfortable throughout their surgery. She is also actively involved in research in the field of hip and knee replacement.

Her specialties include hip and knee replacement, arthritis, fracture care, sports medicine and general orthopedics. In her spare time she enjoys cooking, photography and spending time with her family.

The SaddleBrooke Ranch Pickleball Club sponsored light snacks and refreshments for attendees of this talk.

The October Thursday Talks is “Who Do We Think We Are? – The answer is in our DNA” presented by members of the SBR Ranch Roots Genealogy group. Talk of DNA analysis is an everyday occurrence. Whether it’s watching the news, reading a magazine or watching a ‘cop’ show on TV, understanding our DNA is part of today’s world. Three members of the SBR Ranch Roots Genealogy Club, Jeff Johnson, Mike Neal and Gloria Quigg, will be our speakers for the October 15 SBR Thursday Talks. They will give us an insight on this rapidly evolving science called genomics and its impact on tracing our family history, as well as the wider impact on our health, privacy and personal choice these tools could provide.
