SBR Technology Club continues to grow, plus future opportunities

With only six months under our belt, the SBR Technology Club has made a big impact with impressive stats. Pushing the 240 mark for membership with 200 of our members attending workshops and Special Interest Groups (SIGs). Over 1200 visitors have stopped off at our Open Labs to ask for help from our many volunteer monitors, donating over 500 hours during Open Labs.

In the last four months, we have offered 30 classes, covering PhotoShop Elements, iPhone Basics, Excel Basics, Network and Routers, Next Door Workshops and Mac Photo editing. Future classes under development are Apple Mac basics, MS Word for beginners, iPhone Photo Basics, Android Basics, Excel Advance and a multi-week class on Family Tree Maker.

Open discussion groups called SIGs have been going on for a few months and more SIGs are getting started. We have had great discussions about appliances for Smart Homes and for the advance computer-types, Maker DIY and Raspberry Pi SIG is in full swing. In February, we started a SIG called Apps for Smart Phones and Tablets with the idea to talk about various apps that can make our phones and tablets even more productive.

We plan to have quarterly general meetings to invite members as well as others in the community for topics of importance. Our February meeting hosted Cybersecurity experts to answer questions on making us safer on our various computers, smart phones and tablets. In the future, we are developing talks on VPN’s Virtual Private Networks, Home Entertainment options and much more. Send us your ideas for other topics.

Stay tuned for more talks and additional classes. Don’t forget to stop by to the many Open Labs to ask our volunteer monitors to help with your technical questions.
