SBRMGA Ryder Cup

Tom Graham

The first special event of the 2018 SBRMGA golf season, the Ryder Cup, tees up February 8, 14 and 15. The three-day event follows the Ryder Cup team match play format with foursomes (alternate shot) played on February 8, four ball (two man team best ball) February 14 and singles matches February 15. There will be 11 foursome matches, 11 four ball matches and 22 singles matches. The Red team co-captains Mike Mycka and Dave Hansel; and the Blue team co-captains Larry Sandoval and Rob Nemecek will be selecting their 22-man teams upon signup closing February 6. The Red team and Blue team pairings to be announced thereafter.

The SBRMGA Ryder Cup provides a special match play competition for its members. Whether the golfer is considered an A, B, C or D flight they will be paired in competition, Red team vs Blue team, with a like flighted member. Unlike the Ryder Cup there is no one sitting out. All 44 golfers participate each day.

Remarks by past participants point to this special event as a highlight of the first quarter of the golfing season at SaddleBrooke Ranch. This team event is fun, competitive and an opportunity to engage with others. It’s what brings many to our community and many to the SBRMGA.

The SBRMGA schedules weekly events and a minimum of four special events each year. Presently the special events include the Ryder Cup, Member Match Play, Club Championship and Founders Cup. Wish the competitors well, check the boards at the Golf Shop or look to the next Roundup for results.
