Tai Chi classes

Carol Emerson

I’m so pleased to announce that we have expanded our Tai Chi offerings at SaddleBrooke One! In addition to the beginning class on Friday afternoons, there is an additional beginning/intermediate class and an advanced class on Saturdays. This allows students a full progression of training. Also the free private lesson is still available when you purchase the six class package.

Advantages of In-Person Training

There are lots of videos you can purchase and YouTube videos online and many people believe they can learn Tai Chi that way. However, while it is possible to do so, it is actually quite difficult to learn that way. For one thing most videos are filmed in such a way that you are watching the instructor as he/she faces you. This means that the image you see is actually the mirror image of the actual movements. With in-person instruction, you learn the moves exactly the way they are performed as you are both facing the same direction. Plus, in a class you receive individualized instruction and “course corrections” as you go, and you can ask questions, making your learning process more efficient.

About Your Instructors

Ken and Carol Emerson have been practicing martial arts for over 40 years. They are both certified black belt instructors through the Ching Yi Kung Fu Association (www.chingyikungfu.com). The CYKFA was founded by Master Her Yue Wong in 1972 with the motto of “Kung Fu for Health and Peace of Mind.” Dr. Wong grew up in China where he learned martial arts from his family and other practitioners of the day. He was one of the first to teach the arts to non-Chinese students. The Ching Yi core training curriculum, which we teach, is focused on the Internal Kung Fu systems of Tai Chi Ch’uan, Hsing-Yi Ch’uan and Pa Kua Tsang along with their unique supplementary exercises and self-defense applications.

Health Benefits

Tai Chi has been shown to help maintain strength and flexibility, improve balance, calm the mind, ease depression and even help with arthritis, high blood pressure, Parkinson’s disease, fibromyalgia and lupus. Join us and see for yourself!
