Technology Club Volunteers are Available to Help You

Linda Shannon-Hills

Many of us have been purchasing new smart phones, laptop computers, and tablets. The more the features available in these new devices, the more confusing it may be to you. Researchers at the University of California at San Diego Health Sciences department found that, many times, frustration with new technology made older adults unsure of their ability to use it, leaving them unmotivated to even try. Don’t let yourself get to this point. The SBR Technology Club offers open labs at various times during the week, in the Technology Room located in the Creative Arts and Technology Center next to the dog park. During these open lab times, monitors are available to help you with questions and issues you might have with your devices. Don’t feel uncomfortable asking for help, as the monitors have proven to make our members and residents feel better about using their devices.

The Technology Club also offers workshops and classes on various subjects for members of the club. Some of the courses being offered are Meet Your Mac on using contacts, using iCloud, using Time Machine; Meet Your PC on navigating your desktop, organizing files, working with applications, and customizing your PC; MS Word Tips and Tricks; MS Excel Tips and Tricks; MS PowerPoint on how to make a presentation; understanding how to use GroupWorks; smartphone workshops; as well as Family Tree Maker workshops. Various SIGs (Special Interest Groups) meet for general discussions on Artificial Intelligence, and Cutting the Cord on Streaming TV/Video.
