Thursday Talks – Focus on reptiles’ behaviors and habits

Linda Shannon-Hills

To start off our March safety lectures, Bob Elder, a docent from Arizona Sonora Desert Museum, will start the talk about reptiles focusing on rattlesnakes’ behaviors and habits. He will present a slide show with pictures to help you identify the various reptiles in our neighborhood. Bob has presented at the Ranch several times and has done extensive studies of the Sonora Desert and its inhabitants.

Jay Smith, dog trainer and owner of Community Dog Training, will also be here to make his annual visit to SaddleBrooke Ranch on Thursday, March 15 at 4:00 p.m. in La Mesa and Montana Rooms at La Hacienda facility. He will bring out his snakes to demonstrate in the parking lot the behavior of rattlesnakes and an “up close and personal” encounter with some of his defanged rattlers so you can familiarize yourself with both the look and the sound of a live rattlesnake. Jay also welcomes pet owners to also take the opportunity to re-check their dogs for the correct response to a rattlesnake. Re-certification fee is $5. Many residents of SBR have taken their dogs to Jay for training and have been very happy with the results. You can discuss scheduling a class with Jay.

This talk has become an annual event here at SaddleBrooke Ranch, and yet people comment that they always learn something new about living in our desert environment.

This is an opportunity you won’t want to miss. Join us for this informational talk to help keep you safe when in the desert. Thursday, March 15 at 4:00 p.m.
