2018 Oratorical contest competition

The 81st annual American Legion High School U.S. Constitution Oratorical Scholarship Contest was on March 3. Two American Legion Oro Valley Post 132 sponsored high school students, both freshmen at BASIS of Oro Valley, competed in the Department of Arizona competition. Cassandra Lawson and Mallorie Cohen finished third and fourth respectively. They both had advanced through three previous levels of competition leading to state. An exceptional accomplishment for two freshmen who competed against juniors and seniors at every level. There are five levels of competition beginning at the local Legion Post and ending with the national finals competition with monetary awards at each level. The program is designed to instill a greater knowledge and appreciation of the U.S. Constitution among high school students. We are always interested in engaging more students in this annual program.
