At our July Birthday Club luncheon we welcomed three new members as well as celebrated the birthdays of four members. Nini Falconer, president of the Birthday Club, moderated the luncheon as well as led the women in singing Happy Birthday to our birthday girls. Our luncheon of three healthy salads and a delicious dessert was a winner. The luncheon was fun as well as being informative, thanks to our guest speaker.
The guest speaker this month was Dr. Michael Miles from the Catalina Clinic in nearby Catalina. Trained at Bastyr University, a world-renowned school of natural health arts and sciences, Dr. Miles has practiced for 25 years. He wowed our audience with an in-depth but comprehendible talk covering many health issues that women confront in their mature years. By taking many questions from the audience he made his talk even more pertinent.
He explained some recent findings on heart/arterial disease. Research is showing that it is not so much the cholesterol that is at fault but the prior inflammation of the arteries. Inflammation within the arteries leads to creating rough areas within the arteries where the cholesterol can lodge, thus creating hardening of the arteries. Without this damage to the interior of the arteries, the cholesterol simply flows by and helps to build hormones and the brain in which cholesterol is a major component.
His clinic provides many services including but not limited to: chelation therapy, colonics, sauna/ozone therapy, hyperbaric chamber treatments and a personalized supplement program to get you on your way to a more healthful life. Ron Chandler, a practitioner of Traditional Chinese Medicine, also works at the clinic. He provides acupuncture services as well as personalized Chinese herb regimens.
The Birthday Club meets the second Monday of each month at the Hacienda Club, except for two months in which we present our fashion shows.
