Learn more about making your home smart

Linda Shannon-Hills

The invites all residents to the club’s quarterly general meeting on Monday, November 5 starting at 4:30 p.m. for a talk “How to Make your Home, Smart!” by guest speaker Andrea Bianca, a Smart Home consultant. The club will have a short meeting before the talk.

What does it mean to have a Smart Home? Companies are building automation for a home called a smart home or smart house. A home automation system will control lighting, climate, entertainment systems and appliances. It may also include home security such as access control and alarm systems.

Nearly everything in your home, including air-conditioners, thermostats, lights and garage doors, can be connected to the internet and be remotely controlled with a mobile device or smart speaker. But setting up a so-called smart home can be mind-boggling. There is a plethora of different accessories that work only with certain products and some work better than others.

A smart home doesn’t have to mean completely new and crazy gadgets or robots, though it can if you want. Often it just means replacing gadgets, appliances and accessories with connected or automated versions of a similar thing, smart light bulbs, smart thermostats, smart security systems etc.

All residents, a member or not of the Technology Club, are invited to attend.

Join us on Monday, November 5 at 4:30 p.m. in La Mesa and Montana to learn ways to save you time and money by making your home smart.
