Men golfers participate in 2014 Robson Cup

Doug Streuber

This year’s Robson Challenge Cup event was held at Tuscany Falls in the PebbleCreek resort community in Goodyear on May 7. The Robson Challenge Cup is an annual competition among Robson golf clubs that rotates each year to a different Robson Community. Each year the event is a good chance to have some fun, meet other golfers from the Robson circle and play different Robson Community golf courses.

The team format calls for teams of 15 golfers from each club with the highest five net scores eliminated. The remaining ten net scores are added to that of the community’s Pro (in our case Ken Steinke) and then compared to those of the other participating community clubs. Best total net score wins! There is also an individual competition with prizes going to a number of low gross and low net golfers in each of six flights.

Six Robson Community clubs  participated in this year’s event — PebbleCreek Eagle’s Nest, Quail Creek, Robson Ranch, SaddleBrooke Mountain View – Preserve, SaddleBrooke Ranch and PebbleCreek Tuscany Falls. The Falls and Palms courses were used for the rounds. The weather was breezy but the temperatures were pleasant. A hosted, well done dinner in the Tuscany Falls Clubhouse followed the competition. There the team and individual prizes were awarded.

Our 15 man SBRMGA team finished fourth out of the six clubs, an improvement on 2013’s fourth out of five and 2012’s last place finishes. This isn’t bad considering SaddleBrooke Ranch is by far the smallest Robson Community. The host club finished first this year. Our team members who placed in the top four in their flights and won prizes were Harley Schlachter (first place), Tom Kanitz, Ted Wierman, Craig Child, and Tony Seales. Our Pro Ken Steinke had the best score among the pros. Congratulations to everyone!
