Recap:

Tom “Half Jacket” Barrett’s road to the championship started by outlasting Jim Fabio in the first round and then vanquished Ron Quarantino to the losers’ bracket in the second round. Joe Giammarino was next. Tom just outplayed him for the win. Tom and Ron Ridge matched up next. Ron bested Tom, which sent Tom to the losers’ side and put Ron undefeated on the hill. (He would have to be beaten twice.) In the losers’ bracket Tom paired up with Joe again. Tom put on a banking clinic in this one by banking his last two balls before making a difficult long rail shot on the 8-ball for the win. This set up a re-match between Ron and Tom. Tom would have to beat Ron twice for the championship since Ron was undefeated and Tom had one loss. Ron was in control of the game until he unfortunately miscued on the 8-ball, which would have ended the tournament; Tom took advantage by running out for the win. The final game was next. This game went back and forth, but Tom “Half Jacket” Barrett was just too much for Ron on this day and he won his second 8-ball singles tournament. Congratulations, Tom “Half Jacket” Barrett!

Thanks to our hosts the pool players of the Brooke Billiards Club, the SaddleBrooke Billiards Center, to all the participants and sponsors. We would also like to thank Karl “English” Knight for delivering the pizzas hot and on time, Faye Taylor for delicious Swedish Meatballs and Fred “The Baker” Dianda wowed everyone with mouth-watering éclairs.

A fun day was over after three hours and 31 games of 8-ball, nine pizzas, salad, lots of Swedish meatballs and plenty of scrumptious éclairs. The 16 participants had lunch, competed and met some new friends that shared their passion. That is a good day! Rack ‘em up!
