The SBR 2018 Fall Mah Jongg (MJ) Tournament will be held on Thursday, November 8, 2018, from 9:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m. in the La Mesa and La Montana Rooms. The exciting thing about tournament play is that it is faster than our typical casual play, we follow tournament rules and play for points.
Are you curious, but unfamiliar with the rules and scoring? Not to worry! We have scheduled two practice sessions for interested people to learn and play with the rules, to keep score and to experience faster play. These sessions will be held on September 27 and October 11 during the regular MJ club play. Gale Hall will teach these practice sessions. If you have an MJ set, please bring it with you to the practice session so that we are sure to have enough!
Here is the agenda for the tournament:
9:00–9:30 a.m.: check in
9:30 a.m.: Reviewing the rules for tournament play
10:00 a.m.: Round One (four games)
11:00 a.m.: Round Two (four games)
12:00 p.m.: Round Three (four games)
1:00 p.m.: Lunch. We’ll enjoy a yummy lunch planned for us by Chef Jose.
2:00 p.m.: Round Four (four games)
3:00 p.m.: Round Five (four games)
4:00 p.m.: Awarding the prizes! (The top prize is dinner for two at our new clubhouse!)
Gail Latimer will be the tournament monitor. She will keep time, tabulate scores and resolve any questions that may come up during the event.
Does this sound like fun? Then complete the registration form and mail your check for $35 to Bonnie Goldman. We are limited to 40 people in our space, so registration is on a first come, first served basis. Registration is limited to residents of SaddleBrooke Ranch. The registration deadline is October 24 and cancellations after this date are non-refundable. Hope to see you there!
