SBRPA hosts social events and skills development

Ron Green

Our commitment for 2018 is to bring our members great social events and help develop skills playing pickleball.

The SaddleBrooke Ranch Pickleball Association held its first social event for 2018, our St. Patrick’s Day Celebration Luck of the Dink, on March 14, 2018.

We had 48 members participate in this event and the weather for the day was clear with some slight winds.

Our event was set up with a round robin format of play with five matches played. This format provided an opportunity for great social play, having members of all skill levels play together, as well as rotating partners with each match. Clearly our members had a wee bit ‘o fun and were encouraged to wear green in spirit of St. Patrick’s Day. All members received a St. Patrick’s Day tattoo and enjoyed a box of popcorn.

We would like to thank our Social Committee: Mary Stolze, Cindy Sundquist, Rebecca Call, Susan Engebretson, Sally Grasso, Corine Sturdivant, Deb Street and Lorraine Smith. Special thanks to Lorraine Smith for being the lead on this event. Great event for our members and a great way to kick off 2018.

Our Skills and Development Committee has also been busy bringing the following clinics to our members:

Assisted play for 2.0 players focused on providing assisted play with coaches for our 2.0 members, led by Jodie Koerner. We had 32 members register for the two clinics held in March.

Drills for Skills Clinic for our 2.5 players focused on helping develop skills with serving, returning, third shot drops and dinking, led by Debbie McCauley. We had 27 members register for the two clinics held in March.

A clinic was also held in March to help members that do not have festival or tournament experience to help them get ready for our Pickleball Festival in April, led by Charles Hendryx. We had ten members register for this clinic.

We have “Assisted play for 2.0 players clinics” set up for May on the first and third Thursday.

We have also implemented evening sessions of New Player/Beginner Coaching for anyone that wants to check out what pickleball is all about and our club. The May sessions are set for Tuesday, May 8 and Tuesday, May 22 starting at 5:00 p.m.
