Just like many other firsts in 2020, over two dozen members of the SBR Shalom Club celebrated Hanukkah together with the compliments of Zoom. On the first night of Hanukkah, we recited the prayer and lit the first night’s candle.
One candle is lit on the first night of Hanukkah, and an additional candle is lit on each successive night, until, on the eighth night, the Hanukkah is fully illuminated. Hanukkah is also called the Feast of Lights or Festival of Lights due to the importance of candle-lighting. Hanukkah is an eight-day Jewish observance that remembers the Jewish people’s struggle for religious freedom.
The SaddleBrooke Ranch Shalom Club was formed in 2011. We now have over 80 members and continue to grow.
Many of us are new to Arizona; our goal is to recreate the tastes, smells, and happy memories of our past, make new friends, and spend quality time together. Our mission includes creating a warm and welcoming environment that builds life-long relationships, celebrating holidays together, and supporting each other in times of need.
Past events of the club have included a community Passover Seder, Hanukkah party, community Menorah lighting, social action projects, Shabbat dinner, Yom Kippur break the fast, field trips to Tucson, and theatre events.
