Four years ago the SaddleBrooke Ranch Men’s Golf Association (SBRMGA) organized the first Community Golf Event with 19 resident golfers participating. We celebrated afterward with a small awards dinner at a nearby restaurant. From those humble beginnings the April Community Golf Event has grown into arguably the most popular social event at the Ranch.
This year’s event was held on Sunday, April 13 with an afternoon shotgun start. More than 90 residents participated, either as golfers or putters. There were fun pre-golf putting and chipping contests, closest to the pin contests, closest to the line contests and a team putting competition. Afterward participants enjoyed a buffet dinner served by Bistro Veinte staff in the tent before awards and raffle winners were announced. After expenses, proceeds were donated to the SaddleBrooke Community Outreach Education Division scholarship program. Many additional donations were made by Ranch organizations and individuals.
This year’s event was organized and managed jointly by the SBRMGA, the SBR Women’s Golf Association, the Lady Putters and the Lady Niners. Chuck Baker, SBRMGA Special Events Chairman, chaired the committee. Dom Miglionico roamed the course during play and the dinner to photograph the activities. Thanks to all of them for a very successful and fun event.
Participants competed in terms of team putts (best three of the foursome) recorded during the entire round. The winning team was Ted and Catherine Wierman along with Gerry and Dawn Hause. Doug Streuber and Colleen Carey won the pre-golf putting contests while Bill Harant and Mary Snowden won the pre-golf chipping contests. Tony Seales and Jeanne Hardiman were closest to the pin while Steve Kovach and Carole Ericksen were closest to the line in the center of the fairway. Prizes were awarded to these participants and to raffle winners at the dinner afterward.
Robson Resort Communities (Jason Hatch) sponsored the putting contest. Many businesses sponsored specific holes with financial contributions and provided raffle prizes. We are grateful for the support of these businesses and encourage residents to patronize them whenever possible:
