The Cancer Support Group meets three to four times per year. Our functions are typically social, so we can all get to know each other better. Subsequently, people reach out and talk to each other throughout the year to offer guidance and support. The Cancer Support Group is open to survivors (anyone who had or currently has cancer) and co-survivors (loved ones of those previously or currently being treated for cancer).
This year we are attempting a new method of support. In June, the Cancer Support Group will host meetings targeting the two most common cancers among our age group.
Prostate Cancer Support Meeting
The first Prostate Cancer Support Meeting will take place on June 10 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the La Mesa Room at La Hacienda. This meeting is open to all men who have had, are currently living with, or are currently being treated for prostate cancer. This event is a peer-to-peer discussion group, which means it will be facilitated by a non-medical professional. We are fortunate to have SaddleBrooke Ranch resident and survivor Scott Wilson facilitating the evening.
Breast Cancer Support Meeting
The first Breast Cancer Support Meeting takes place June 17 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the La Mesa Room at La Hacienda. This meeting is open to all women and men who have had, are currently living with, or are currently being treated for breast cancer.
Living life with a cancer diagnosis brings uncertainty, fear, anger, sadness, and more. But here at SaddleBrooke Ranch, you are not alone. Family and friends may offer love and support, but sympathetic support is different than having an empathetic ear—people who can listen and understand.
These meetings bring together people with a similar diagnosis or challenge. You can safely gather together to share knowledge, encouragement, and emotional comfort. As with all support groups, privacy is key. What is shared in a support group meeting must never be shared to others without explicit consent.
You do not need to be a current cancer support group member to come.
To RSVP you can:
* Log on to GroupWorks and RSVP for the chosen event or
* Send a private message to Sandy Jessop at [email protected] or
* Text/call Sandy at 520-686-4566
Then mark your calendar so we can help support each other through these journeys.
