Two members of the Rancheros Square Dance Club recently attended the annual National Square Dance Convention in Milwaukee. Carla Marquardt and Rebecca Williams joined some 2,500 participants who came from around the nation and around the world, including participants from Japan, Germany, and Australia, to name a few.

The convention offered dancing in a number of halls and at all levels of square dancing from beginning Mainstream to Challenge level. The Rancheros dance at the intermediate PLUS level. Carla and Rebecca enjoyed dancing to a live band in the Mainstream hall as well as the PLUS hall. They also attended introductions to Contra and Line Dancing, and Carla also enjoyed some of the intermediate Line Dancing offered.

The convention also offered a number of interesting tours including tours of the Pabst Mansion, a Milwaukee City Tour, and a tour by boat to enjoy the rivers and wonderful views of the lakeshore. Enjoying what each city has to offer is a key to fun at the convention, which will be held in Shreveport, La.; Waco, Texas; and Loveland, Colo., in upcoming years.

Square dancing is a fun activity and open to both singles and couples. Some dancers learn to dance both the man’s and lady’s part so all can enjoy this fun, mentally and physically stimulating activity. Participants dance with different people each time, so it is a great way to meet new friends and enjoy the social aspects as well. The Rancheros dance to a professional caller every Sunday evening.

If you would be interested in learning more about this fun activity, visit our website under “Things to do,” then “Clubs” at the SaddleBrooke Ranch HOA site (saddlebrookeranchhoa.org), or contact Rebecca Williams at [email protected]. Beginning lessons will start again on Thursday, Oct. 10.
