Zentangle design to be created provided by instructor, Val Barsevich

Intermediate Zentangle Class: Under the Sea—November 18

Dale Farland

Class Description: Val Barsevich, Certified Zentangle Teacher returns to teach another Zentangle class. While Zentangle is a non-representational art form, you can use tangles to create Zentangle Inspired Art (ZIA) using many other media. In this class, Val Barsevich, CZT, will lead you through the creation of an under-the-sea scene using Zentangle patterns. This is a larger project done on a rectangular piece of multi-media paper rather than small tiles.

This class is an Intermediate level class for those with prior experience with Zentangle. The focus in this class will be to learn many new tangles and put them directly into a seascape of your imagination! It is fun, relaxing, and a project you may want to frame!

The instructor, Val Barsevich, is a retired educator who has been using and teaching the Zentangle method for six years to children and adults. A lifelong love of creative arts led her to discover Zentangle. It became a daily practice that continues to help relieve stress and give her a simple outlet for creativity. Val has shared Zentangle with her middle school students plus friends and family. After retirement, she was a co-teacher at Sister Jose Women’s Center for weekly classes offered to women experiencing homelessness. Val became a certified Zentangle teacher (CZT) in 2021 and is currently teaching weekly online classes for Televeda.

Returning Class: Wine Glass Painting on December 11

Dale Farland

We had so much fun painting wine glasses last year, participants asked us to bring back this class. What could be more fun than painting wine glasses while enjoying the laughter and camaraderie of new and existing friends? Did I include that you can imbibe with your personal libations while doing this? No need to know how to paint! This is a class where everyone is a beginner and even if you are all thumbs, you will leave with two terrific looking wine glasses (either two wine glasses or two tumblers) at the end of the evening.

Class Description: Christine Lytwynczuk will provide detailed step-by-step instruction, teaching brush strokes and techniques. Themes to be painted will be either 1) Cherry Blossoms or 2) Pine and Berries. The Cherry Blossoms design is the design done last year, so you can now have four matching glasses, if you want.

She uses special acrylic glass paint that will stay on your painted glass permanently! It is even dishwasher safe. Two glasses will be painted simultaneously, so you will leave with a pair. You have a choice of either two stemmed wine glasses or two non-stemmed tumbler glasses. You will note on your registration which type of glasses you would like to paint.

Date for Class: Wednesday, Dec. 11

Time: 4 p.m. Glass painting should take 2 hours; however, plan on 3 hours to make sure painting is done. Feel free to bring libations to enjoy while painting.

Class Fee: $45. You must be a member of the SBR Art Club and have an Art Club account on Club Express. You will be registering for the class and paying by credit card on this new platform.
