On March 11 and 12 talent from all over SaddleBrooke will entertain audience members with music, dance, and comedy from the 1970s. Director Gail Nelli and Assistant Director Monica Gray have been working with an exciting line-up of singers, dancers, musicians, and comedic actors to present “A Seventies Shindig!”

Comedy: Prepare yourself to have your funny bone tickled. Reminiscent of Laugh-In, Gladys will repel the advances of Tyrone on a park bench, and Henry Gibson will read a touching poem. In a parody of Saturday Night Live (SNL), Jane Curtin (Ande Molberg) will get a “Weekend Update” from Roseanne Roseannadanna (Fran Berman).

Dance: Under the direction of professional ballroom dancers Dale and Ann Pizzitola, SaddleBrooke Ballroom Dance Club members will channel Freddie Mercury’s energy and passion as they dance to Queen’s “Crazy Little Thing Called Love.” Separately, Vivian Herman and Bob Osborne will dance the hustle to “September,” by Earth, Wind & Fire. Equally entertaining, the Coyote Country Cloggers, led by Carol Jones, will get in step with new combinations to “Tie a Yellow Ribbon” and “Eastbound and Down,” the theme song from Smokey and the Bandit. For the first time on the DesertView Theater stage, the SaddleBrooke Line Dance Club will kick up their heels with “Boogie Shoes” and “Stayin’ Alive.” Also, Glenda Fredericks and the Hula Dancers will sway their hips to “Ulupalakua,” a top Hawaiian hit from the ‘70s.

Songs: You may find yourself humming along to great musicians and singers with your favorite ‘70 songs from the Bee Gees, Barbra Streisand, George Benson, Barry Manilow, Stevie Nicks, and a host of others.

Musical scores: The show will include salutes to two blockbuster movies, The Godfather and Star Wars. And the SaddleBrooke Singers will have you “Imagine” the vision of John Lennon.

This throw-back to the 1970s will no doubt inspire you to lace up your boogie shoes and hustle, bump, and boot scoot under that ‘70s disco ball.

Tickets are still only $28. But remember, there are only two performances: March 11 at 4 p.m. and March 12 at 7 p.m. at DesertView Theater.
