Francis Gary Powers Jr.
In 1960, Francis Gary Powers, U.S. Air Force pilot of a U-2 was shot down over the Soviet Union. He was held captive for 21 months before being released in a prisoner swap in 1962.
Francis Gary Powers Jr., has worked diligently to tell his father’s story, by founding the Cold War Museum, to honor Cold War veterans, preserve that history, and educate future generations about that time period.
In 2015, he consulted for a Steven Spielberg Cold War thriller, Bridge of Spies, about James Donovan who brokered the ’62 spy exchange between KGB spy Rudolph Abel and CIA U-2 pilot Powers.
Gary is the author of Letters from a Soviet Prison (2017), Spy Pilot (2019), and Enemy Territory (2022), which helped to dispel the misinformation surrounding the U-2 incident.
He is an international speaker, sharing these stories and answering questions. The SaddleBrooke Ranch (SBR) Veterans Club is very honored to host Gary Powers as a special event. It is open to the public.
