Enjoying the ride are Susan Bauer, Lori Sampson, Laurene Fisher, and Craig Bauer.

The SaddleBrooke Ranch Riding Group enjoyed a final ride before the start of the summer hiatus on April 5 at Donnelly’s D-Spur Ranch in Gold Canyon just east of Apache Junction. It was a perfect day of nice weather and clear blue skies. The group was fortunate in seeing some of the Texas Longhorn cows raised on the land around the stable with their young calves. There was also a gila monster out sunning himself near the trail. Of course, there was the magnificent view of the Superstition Mountains as well as surrounding mountain ranges in the area and the ocotillos were in bloom already.

The group is now on hiatus for the summer as it will soon be too warm to enjoy riding. Many of the area stables send most of their horses north to Show Low, Colorado, Wyoming, and Montana to work the trails at other stables where there is better weather and more tourists than here in our sweltering area.

The fall season will start again on Saturday, Oct. 11. The location for this ride is yet to be determined.

If you are interested in the Horseback Riding Group’s activities, go to the Saddlebrooke HOA website and select “Things to do” then “Clubs.” There in the middle column is a link to the “Horseback Riding Group.” Click on that and then the link under the information for the secretary, Rebecca Williams. There you will see a web page about the group’s activities and the upcoming ride for March.

If you would like to participate in a particular ride, send an email to [email protected]. Give the secretary, Rebecca Williams, your name, the ride you want to join, and the time if there is a choice. She will get back to you with a confirmation and can help with any questions you may have. You can participate as often as you choose. All rides are usually one hour and at a walk, just to enjoy the scenery. Upcoming rides are posted on the website. Happy Trails!
