Rotarians Help Triangle YMCA Ramp Up for Ranch Camp

Christianne Dettmann

The sun rose balmy and bright over the Triangle YMCA Ranch Camp on April 12 as SaddleBrooke Sunrise Rotarians—along with members from other local clubs—rolled in to help prepare the grounds for the upcoming summer season. Led by the camp’s Executive Operations Director Wes Long and his team, this year’s annual work day began with a hearty breakfast in the main lodge, followed by a quick huddle to identify work assignments and arm volunteers with tools. Teams then broke off to tackle a variety of tasks, mostly involving landscaping cleanup and minor painting. Woven-in weeds, tangled trees, and bristly bushes threatened to thwart the teams’ efforts, but the tenacity of these determined individuals ultimately won out and turned many of the “to-dos” into “dones.”

Rotarian Christianne Dettmann said of the event, “Summer camp is such a great learning and bonding opportunity for kids! I’m glad we could help pave the way again this year for all who will get to enjoy such an incredible place!” Bob Lamar, another SaddleBrooke Sunrise Rotarian, concurred: “The Triangle Y camp is an amazing and enticing place for kids. The clean-up day provided me the opportunity to help ensure that all the kids have a safe and welcoming place for their summer visit.”
