M.C. Nelson
We were fortunate to hear from Brian Matlock, a mechanical engineer working for multiple companies and running for Arizona State Mining Inspector. He’s worked for many mining companies across many states and has years of experience. He spoke about the need for safety for the workers (which ultimately leads to safety of the towns these mines are located in) and believes in common sense safety protocol and audits to prevent complacency. He informed us about the current number of abandoned mines in Arizona and how they injure and kill more people (who find them) than actual mining accidents; we as a State need to ensure that we reduce the number of incidents and secure these dangerous mines.
We also heard from Francesca Martin, Co-Founder and Deputy Director of Keep Arizona Blue, a student Coalition. She is a Senior at Arizona State University (studying political science) and raised in a proud union home (which saved her family when her dad was severely injured off the job as a fireman helping someone in a car accident). She saw how policies affect working families. She works with her teams across Arizona to help enroll new student voters and cultivate the next generation of campaign leaders.
She is passionate about driving meaningful change and advancing values that positively impact people’s lives regardless of political party.
