Our Winter concert will feature a celebration of animation. We will be playing music from cartoons like the Flintstones, Jetsons, Looney Tunes, The Polar Express, as well as video game soundtracks of various types.

In the second half of the concert, we will be honoring SaddleBrooke Winds and Strings (SBWS) flutist Sandy Mader’s memory by playing a piece she donated to our Director Jesus Jacquez before she passed, in collaboration with the SaddleBrooke Singers, who were very close to her. The audience can expect some holiday tunes in the second half, along with a rendition of Eric Whitacre’s “Sleep” for band and choir.

Our Halloween concert was a resounding success. In addition to a great, albeit somewhat spooky music performance, there were dancers and a costume contest. The dancers were from the University of Arizona Dance Program and performed in two pieces. There were about 40 contestants from the band and audience participating in the costume contest. The “Happy Travelers” AKA Cora and Saul Peters, were deemed the contest winners by receiving the most enthusiastic audience outburst! They won $100 for their efforts.

If you are an active player or someone who used to play an instrument, SBWS is looking for you! SBWS is a no-audition ensemble that meets Friday mornings from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. for rehearsal. Clarinet, trumpet, horn, trombone, and timpani players are especially needed.
