Whether you or a loved one has or has had cancer, your life has most probably been affected by this complex disease. The results are not just physical issues. The psychological well-being of patients, their families, and caregivers can result in a number of mental health issues. These issues could impact treatment compliance, quality of life, and the outcome of overall health. In fact, research shows approximately 30% of patients may experience cancer-related psychological disorders, including anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress. Patient caregivers can also experience significant emotional, physical, and financial stress, which can have a negative impact on their health.
A cancer diagnosis often triggers various emotional responses for patients and their loved ones, including fear, anxiety, and uncertainty about the future. Facing treatment challenges, potential side effects, and possible recurrence can intensify these psychological burdens, resulting in feelings of sadness, anger, grief, and a loss of control over their lives.
Studies indicated that neglecting mental health concerns can affect present and future quality of life.
Emotional and social connections can boost your mental health, reduce loneliness, and strengthen your resilience as you face challenges. Since support plays such a vital role in the cancer treatment journey, why turn it down? The SaddleBrooke Ranch Cancer Support Group (CSG) is here to assist anyone who has been affected by cancer. And let’s face it—that could include our entire community!
Connecting with others who understand your experience can be incredibly comforting. Peer support, whether through friends, family, or organized support groups, helps reduce loneliness and anxiety. Sharing your cancer journey with people who have faced similar health challenges fosters a sense of community and encouragement. Caregivers benefit by learning self-care and resilience strategies from one another.
