Happy Tail “Miracle Kitten”

Romayne Trudo

On Nov. 5, 2025, Kathy Coffman had no idea that a tiny miracle was about to enter her life. While her car was parked at the DesertView Complex, a fragile six-week-old kitten crawled up into the chassis, seeking warmth and safety. Later that day, as Kathy pulled into her garage, she was startled by the faint cries of a kitten.

Searching carefully, she discovered the little one had slipped out of the car and hidden behind the furnace. Despite her neighbor’s help, the frightened kitten remained out of reach. That’s when SaddleBrooke Pet Rescue was called and arrived with a small Havahart trap lined with food and a soft blanket. Hours later, when the house was quiet, hunger overcame fear, and the kitten ventured inside.

She was impossibly smalljust 1.64 poundsand trembling with uncertainty. Kathy and her husband, Larry Tolman, welcomed her into their home, keeping her warm and comforted through the night. The next morning, a vet confirmed her age: only 6 weeks old, yet already a survivor.

From that moment, the kittennow lovingly named Kaceebegan to weave herself into Kathy and Larry’s hearts. On Dec. 11, 2025, she was officially adopted, transforming from a frightened stray into a cherished family member.

What better way to celebrate the holiday season than by saving a precious life? Kacee’s story is a reminder that sometimes, miracles arrive on four tiny paws.

Happy Tail: Ivy’s Journey

Romayne Trudo

This sweet 7-month-old Black Mouth Cur puppy was discovered on Sept. 11, 2025, running loose along SaddleBrooke Boulevard near the entrance to the Preserve. She had a severely injured tail, no collar, no tags, and no microchip. SaddleBrooke Pet Rescue searched diligently for her owners, but no one came forwardleading us to suspect she had been intentionally abandoned.

Despite her injury, she radiated energy, joy, and excitement. She was placed in the loving foster care of Mary and Randall Zimmerman, who named her Sybil and showered her with kindness. For a month, veterinarians tried to heal her tail, but ultimately recommended amputation. The surgery was performed at the same time she was spayed, ensuring she could move forward pain-free.

By late September, a family adopted her, but sadly returned her a month later. Her exuberance, though endearing, proved overwhelming and posed a risk of injury to one of the adopters. Once again, she found herself in foster careuntil her miracle arrived.

A SaddleBrooke couple, Sharon and Bryan Kanz, were searching for a playmate for their dog Honey Bee, a sweet and playful pup of similar breed. The moment they met Sybil, it was clear: this was a match made in heaven. On Nov. 17, 2025, they adopted her, renamed her Ivy, and enrolled her in regular training sessions to help channel her boundless puppy energy.

Today, Ivy and Honey Bee are inseparable best friends. They share a spacious yard to romp in and even a pool to splash around during hot summer days. Ivy’s journeyfrom abandonment and injury to love and belongingreminds us of the power of compassion and second chances.

SaddleBrooke Pet Rescue Network and Ivy herself thank everyone who played a role in rescuing her, keeping her safe, and giving her the happy ending she so richly deserved.

Your Support Is Appreciated

SaddleBrooke Pet Rescue Network (SBPRN) would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to each and every one of you for your continued support. This year’s Jim Click Millions for Tucson Raffle was a tremendous success.

Thanks to the dedication of our SBPRN volunteers and the generosity of our community, ticket sales brought in $3,500. These funds will be immediately distributed to the rescue groups and shelters we support, helping to pay down veterinary bills and purchase much-needed equipment and food for homeless cats and dogs in our area.

Several Board members attended the Dec. 11 drawing at Reid Park Zoo. While no one in SaddleBrooke took home the Kia Carnival, the first-class airline tickets, or the $5,000 cash prize, the true winners are the animals who will now be warm, well cared for, and well fed this winter.

We are excited to share that we will once again participate in the 2026 Jim Click Millions for Tucson Raffle. We hope you will consider supporting us againgiving you another chance to dream about which incredible prize you might win, while helping animals in need.

Thank you for making a difference.
