SBR Mudslingers Wheel Throwing Workshop

Sue Fetters

John Backes, an expert in wheel throwing at the SaddleBrooke Ranch (SBR) pottery studio, is teaching a workshop sharing his expertise. His workshops are designed to guide members through the technical process of “throwing” clay—transforming a raw lump of earth into functional or decorative creations. John focuses on the mechanics of the wheel, teaching students how to master centering, opening, pulling the clay, as well as clay preparation and other “tricks of the trade.”

Beyond just the technical skills, John’s teaching at the SBR studio fosters a supportive environment where members can explore their creative potential. In addition to slab building, our members can attempt the process of wheel throwing as another option to create high-quality ceramic pieces. We at Mudslingers appreciate John offering to share his talents. By doing so, we create a learning and teaching culture at the studio.

The Mudslingers studio is located in the Arts and Technology Center. Hours are 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday.
