The SaddleBrooke Ranch (SBR) Art Club is excited to present a diverse selection of classes in May. Please note that registration for classes is open exclusively to SBR Art Club members. Below is a summary of the upcoming classes you can look forward to this month.
Painted Silk Scarves, May 7, 1 to 4 p.m.
Silk painting is coming back to SBR with Mary Gavan, an accomplished Tucson artist known for her painted silk scarves and dye process. Experience the beauty of liquid acrylics as well as other specialized paints as they flow and blend across delicate silk, resulting in one-of-a-kind masterpieces.
Introduction to Zentangle, May 11, 9 to 11:30 a.m.
Many residents of SaddleBrooke Ranch are now fans of Zentangle art. Here’s your opportunity to join in on the fun! This will be an introductory class on the basic steps of the Zentangle method. No artistic ability is required! You will create several pieces of art in a supportive, relaxing environment.
Clipboard Collage, May 13, 1 to 3:30 p.m.
Join collage artist Cathy Ratliff in creating your own unique collage, section by section, using a clipboard as your canvas! Learn layering and spacing along with using complimentary colors. All materials will be provided to complete your project. Great class for beginners and anyone that enjoys the art of collage.
Paper Quilling—Canvas Art with Floral Design (a two-session workshop!), May 14 & 28, 9 a.m. to noon
Join paper quilling artist Erin Newman and take your quilling skills to the next level! Create a beautiful piece of art featuring a hand-crafted quilled flower centerpiece surrounded by a variety of quilling shapes and fill-ins. Some prior quilling experience is helpful.
Watercolor—A Study in Dragonflies, May 21, 9 a.m. to noon
Watercolor artist Liz Iverson returns to SBR to teach a new class painting four to six varieties of dragonflies. Explore their magical appearance and fleeting presence because they move so quickly. All materials provided including pre-outlined dragonflies on watercolor paper and more traceables to practice at home.
Zentangle with Gemstone Embellishments, May 25, 9 to 11:30 a.m.
Join Val Barsevich, CZT, and learn how to draw beautiful realistic gemstones to add to your Zentangle Inspired Art (ZIA)! Create a tile with familiar and new tangles and add a pop of color and dimension through simple techniques. This class is appropriate for tanglers of all levels of experience once you have completed the Introductory Zentangle class.
