All right softball fans, here’s the latest and greatest in SaddleBrooke Senior softball action.
Spring League Action—It’s a Wrap!
Yep, it’s OVER! The Spring season wrapped June 26. The boys and girls of summer took a two–week break and were back at it the second week in July for the Summer season.
Meantime, on Mondays, in Recreational play, Debra Miller-State Farm and Robson Communities battled to a 3-3 each league tie. Charlie Kennedy and Saul Peters banged it out to .786 and .769 averages respectively. In Community (AAA), X-Pert Automotive took the title with a 4-2 record over Twin Lakes Air at 2-4. Ray (Pappy Van Winkle) Szpakowski took the batting title with an eye-poppin’ .905 average. Just 2 outs in 21 ABs!
Tuesdays were a one league day this Spring. Andy’s Irrigation took the title with a 4-3 record over Ann Fraley-Long Realty at 3-4. Trevis Miller at .867 and Barry “do my feet even touch the ground?” Emmons at .833 were the batting standouts.
Wednesdays have Sidewinder and Community action. In Sidewinder, the “combatants,” Leah Kari Solutions and Lynda Meyer-Long Realty both ended at 4-4. Dennis “The Menace” Purcell was the menace of opposing pitchers as he lashed it out for a .862. In Community, Tom Ottaway-State Farm took the bragging rights with a 5-3 record over The Moore Advantage Real Estate at 3-5. Jon Woolmington hammered Mr. Softball to the tune of a .889 average.
Thursday is Coyote (65+) day. Players Pub put the froth on Red Earth Tile all season long and finished at 6-2 with Red Earth at the other end of that. John Molenar at .929 (26 for 28 with 7—yes, SEVEN—home runs!) and Lynn Laureys at .875 led the batters.
Friday had two leagues going this Spring with Competitive and Community. In Competitive, Oro Ford outlasted Nara Brown-Long Realty taking 4 of 7 for a 4-3 record, with Nara at 3-4. Len Gann led the league at .818. In Community, SBHOA TWO had Ridgeview Physical Therapy’s number all season long, finishing with a 6-2 record to the PT’ers 2-6. OUCH! Meantime, Bill Spevak went 26 fer 29 with 3 taters for a .897 average! Dale Pizzatola tried to keep pace with .867 in 26 for 30.
Morlin Hastings
Well, a sad day for SB softball. Our friend and teammate, Morlin Hastings, passed recently to his own “field of dreams.” A tip of the baseball cap, Morlin. Keep rounding third.
Post-Game Wrap
Next Up? Labor Day Tournament, the first Monday in September! Meantime, Summer League games are daily, Monday through Friday, starting at 8 a.m. through mid-September.
