The SBR Texas Club gathered on July 24 for an evening of good food, cold drinks, and the kind of fellowship that makes Texans feel right at home. While only a dozen folks saddled up this time, it proved once again that you don’t need a big herd to have a rootin’ tootin’ good time.
Joining us were Janelle and Bob Author, among the club’s original trail bosses from years ago, along with newcomers Tom and Caroline Moore, who have only been in the neighborhood a couple of months. Before long, they were fitting in like they’d been here since the Alamo.
Everyone had the chance to swap their Texas story—where they hailed from, what part of the Lone Star State they called home, and what finally convinced them to trade Texas highways for Arizona sunshine. As you’d expect, those stories wandered down a few dusty trails, stirred up some fond memories, and sparked more than a few spirited discussions about barbecue, bluebonnets, football, and just exactly where the “real” Texas begins.
Then came our Texas Trivia Challenge. There were no teams—just one big friendly showdown with everyone hollering out answers as fast as they could. There may not have been any belt buckles awarded, but there was plenty of laughter, a few tall tales, and several folks claiming, “I knew that … I was just letting someone else answer!”
Now it’s time to hitch up for our next adventure! On Sept. 27, we’ll climb aboard for the Tucson Trolley Mural Tour, where we’ll discover some of Tucson’s spectacular public art while enjoying another afternoon of fun and fellowship.
