Terry and Anita Zimmerman
After months of planning by members of SBRTA and Robson Communities, Inc., two new tennis courts were completed on June 12. The courts were constructed with a post-tensioned concrete base and a court surface consisting of a state-of-the-art material coating, which is designed to provide a cushion to players’ legs and knees. In addition to the courts, two covered gallery areas complete with picnic tables and lighting were included. The court lighting consists of new LED light fixtures, which provide better illumination on the court surfaces.
A new court opening celebration was held July 9. Thirty-five SBRTA members and guests attended the celebration. The new courts were officially opened with a ceremonial first service by SBRTA board president Steve Ordahl. Great form, Steve! The festivities started with a tennis skills challenge led by Elmer Klavetter. Players were challenged to hit tennis balls to four different areas of the tennis court utilizing their forehand, backhand and lob skills. The challenge was more difficult than anticipated for many players. Out of a possible 10 placement shots, one player hit all 10. Congratulations to Lutz Pape for the achievement. He received a gift certificate to the Bistro. The evening concluded with a social hour. Thank you to the social committee members: Anita Zimmerman, Karen Klavetter, Madoka Knight and Corine Sturdivant, for their help with this successful event.
Let’s fill up those courts!
Tennis for fun! Tennis for fitness! Tennis for friendship!
