Men Golfers compete again in Tucson-Area Pima Cup

Doug Streuber

Yes, the Pima Cup is back! George Kramer has again agreed to represent the SaddleBrooke Ranch Men’s Golf Association (SBRMGA) in the 2014-15 Pima Cup and to lead our efforts. Our hosting date at SaddleBrooke Ranch has been moved from January to early May. In addition there are two new venues in the mix this year: Ventana Canyon and MountainView/Preserve (aka SaddleBrooke HOA2).

For those who don’t know or remember, the Pima Cup is a round robin golf event that rotates among several host clubs in the area. The participating clubs this year are SaddleBrooke Ranch, Saddlebrooke HOA1, El Conquistador, The Gallery (North), Oro Valley Country Club, La Paloma, Ventana Canyon and MountainView-Preserve. Each club sends six golfers to participate in the event. Individual members of each club can participate in one or more of the eight events.

The basic purposes of the Pima Cup are to promote fellowship and to meet golfers from other clubs in the Tucson area. Golfers of all ages and from different levels of ability are encouraged to participate. There is lunch or dinner after each event and a trophy event at the end of the playing year.

Our experience last year is that the competition is very friendly and the hospitality worth the effort. The format is two ball-better ball with a win scoring one point and a tie scoring one-half point for an 18-point total. Each club is required to send a team consisting of two players from each of three levels (based on the players’ indices) to each competition. Each participating club is also encouraged to send a different set of players to each venue.

The first event will take place on Tuesday, December 2, at La Paloma. For more information, contact George Kramer at [email protected] or visit www.sbrmga.org.
