The annual SaddleBrooke Community Outreach Food Drive is coming on Saturday, March 14. This year the food will be sorted and packed for trucks heading to Mammoth at the SaddleBrooke Country Club, HOA One. The nonperishable food items will be delivered to the Tri Community Food Bank in Mammoth serving Oracle, San Manuel, Mammoth and a few places just north of Mammoth.
How does this work? Each unit has a volunteer captain who will put a flyer in your tube recommending certain items. On the morning of March 14 place your donations in bags at the end of your driveway for pickup. If it is raining, try to place the bags in a dry spot by your garage. Your captain will pick up the bags beginning at 8:00 a.m. and take them to the sorting area.
What is recommended? Foods high in protein, like peanut butter, tuna, canned meats, canned meals/soup with meat. What is not suggested? Fancy items like hearts of palm, anchovies, glass containers. Consider cereal, mac and cheese meals, fruit juice in plastic bottles.
Please do not donate outdated products, open products, things in glass containers or fresh food. Hygiene items are permissible.
Wish to donate money? Checks made out to SBCO will be converted to a single check for TCFB. Contact your captain or Joan/Rich Roberts at 825-7577. Last year thousands of pounds of food plus thousands of dollars went to TCFB. Start shopping now for sales; use your coupons and help those in need just a few miles north of us in an area of chronic poverty.
Wish to volunteer your time? The food collection begins at 8:00 a.m. and sorting begins when the first car comes to HOA One. The sorting and packing of the trucks going to Mammoth usually ends late morning. Wear a hat, bring a bottle of water and perhaps a bit of sunscreen. Let’s make a difference in the lives of those nearby.
