Watercolor Class—Relaxing Succulent Agave
Erin Newman
The SaddleBrooke Ranch (SBR) Art Club is bringing more watercolor instruction to our list of classes offered. Liz Iverson is a watercolor artist/teacher and retired K-12 teacher of 27 years. A winner of two exhibit awards, Liz now devotes her time to watercolor painting and has her work on display throughout Tucson in several exhibits, including the SAAG Gallery. She will be the instructor of a Relaxing Succulent Agave class on May 8.
In the class, students learn how to paint a top view of a beautiful, colorful agave plant. The general principles of color blending and wet-on-wet watercolor will be introduced, and students create a finished 9” x 12” watercolor painting suitable for framing. In this fun, relaxing class, we will use watercolor techniques to create beautiful color bursts and blooms in the concentric circles of succulent leaves. The image will be pre-drawn on watercolor paper, so there is no need for drawing skills, unless you would like to draw your own. Then, you will spend the remainder of the class blending wet-into-wet watercolor, painting simple yet mesmerizing leaves. You will lose yourself in the relaxation and meditative practice of painting this way. Leave with a beautiful 9” x 12” painting that you will be proud to frame. This class is appropriate for beginners, and other experienced artists are welcome as well. All materials are provided, which include paints, brushes, water vessels, practice materials, and 100% cotton watercolor paper that includes a pre-drawn agave template. All you have to do is paint!
