Paper Quilling! Learn a New Art!

Erin Newman

Curious about paper quilling? Join SaddleBrooke Ranch (SBR) Art Club member Erin Newman as she teaches you the art of curling, coiling and rolling paper! Paper quilling/filigree is an ancient art form that involves using strips of paper which are rolled, shaped, and adhered together to create detailed, decorative designs. The paper strip is wound around a slotted tool, creating a coil. By pinching the ends of the coil, the artist begins to build an endless variety of creative shapes.

In class you will learn the basics of quilling, using strips of paper and quilling tools. All materials will be provided. Each participant will create their own paper quilled art to take home. (Project selected by instructor.)

Calling All Artists! Looking for Teachers for the SBR Art Club

Dale Farland

Now is the time to share your talents with members of the SaddleBrooke Ranch (SBR) Art Club. You may have taught classes elsewhere previously, or you may have never taught classes before but have experience in an art medium and are willing to share your talent. Either way, we want you to help us expand our instructor base for the SBR Art Club!

The SBR Art Club is always looking for instructors. We have had teachers in what might be considered “traditional” art such as watercolor, oil, acrylic, pastels, and drawing classes. We have also provided classes in what might be considered “non-traditional” art such as paper quilling, acrylic pour, Zentangle, wine glass painting, and journaling.

We know there are even more artists out there in SBR. Just look at all the talent displayed during the ARTwalk! Many SBR artists do not display their artwork during the ARTwalk but are talented. We are continuously looking for artists to share their expertise with members of the Art Club.

Teachers are compensated. No one teaches for free. We just try to keep the class prices reasonable for the students.

So, if you are one of those artists, please contact us. We can discuss further the art medium/technique you want to teach. If you know someone and can “encourage” them to teach, please contact us. We are looking at different avenues to obtain teachers. We have contacted SaddleBrooke for teachers. We have contacted local artists who teach at other venues. Another suggestion is that if you attend an Art Fair and see an artist you think is interesting and might be willing to teach here, pick up their business card and provide it to us.

We are looking forward to having residents helping us by providing their artistic expertise and/or names of artists.

Please feel free to contact the board officers:

Dale Farland, President, Lesdalejef@aol.com

Erin Newman, Vice President, corbinanderin@icloud.com

Donna Mains, Treasurer, Donna.Mains@gmail.com

Nancy Worby, Technical Advisor, Nancyworby282@gmail.com

Remember: It takes a village to keep the SBR Art Club so successful in offering classes for members. So please come forward and help us.

Introduction to Zentangle Class

Dale Farland

The art of Zentangle has been so fulfilling for many SaddleBrooke Ranch residents. Just look in the art room window to see how some students have enjoyed this art medium. If you can draw a dot, a line, an O and an S, you can do Zentangle. It is an easy-to-learn, relaxing, and fun way to create beautiful images by drawing structured patterns. These structured patterns are called tangles. You create tangles with combinations of dots, lines, simple curves, S-curves, and orbs.

Zentangle is a mindfulness technique that many people find relaxing and that has been found to have benefits in reducing anxiety, relieving stress, and increasing focusthe “Zen” part of the word Zentangle.
