How to Register for Art Club Classes

Go to SBRartclub.clubexpress.com.

Current members: Log into your account that you have established on Club Express. Click on the class under Upcoming Events. This will take you to the payment page and provide information for registering and paying by credit card for the class.

New members: Click NEW MEMBER SIGNUP on the home page and register as a new member. Log into your account to see Upcoming Events to register and pay by credit card for the class.

Mosaic Ornaments Using Beads and Glass Tile—December 5

Holiday ornaments are fun to make, to have in your home, and to give as gifts. In this class, students will use a combination of glass tile and beads to create two holiday themed ornaments that will sparkle in the light and are finished with a colorful ribbon. This will be a combination morning and afternoon class with lunch at the Ranch House Grill. What a wonderful way to start the holiday season. You will be proud to display your two holiday ornaments.

Class Description: Instructor Gillian Allard, is returning to teach a new version of mosaic tapestry for holiday ornaments. Students will use a traditional grouted method and will learn about cutting glass with wheeled nippers and precision laying for an elegant look. This is a morning and afternoon class with lunch at the Ranch House Grill in between. Students will have the opportunity to make two different ornaments in this class. Examples of ornaments are: Star, Wreath, Round Bulb, and Stocking. Gillian will provide everything you need to make your beautiful ornaments. For scale, ornaments are approximately 3” to 4.”

Date for Class: Thursday, Dec. 5

Time: Class starting at 10 a.m. Lunch at the Ranch House Grill and finishing at 3:30 p.m.

Class Fee: $90. You must be a member of the SBR Art Club and have an Art Club account on Club Express. You will be registering for the class and paying by credit card on this new platform.

Class Size: Minimum: 4, Maximum: 12

Materials the Instructor Will Provide: Gillian will provide everything you need to make two ornaments including wheeled nippers, glass tiles, and beads.

Materials Participants to Bring: If students want, they can bring small focal points, special beads, broken jewelry, etc. We are grouting so surfaces need to be smooth. For scale, ornaments are approximately 3” to 4.”

New Version of Acrylic Pour Class: December 9 and 12

SaddleBrooke Ranch artist Diane Verkuylen-Murphy is returning to teach this new version of an acrylic pour class. This class will be a traveling open pour class and is open to any skill level. Students will learn how to use a cylinder to create this pour technique. Diane will provide tips such as laying down a thick base coat, torching the base coat to remove bubbles, and tilting the cylinder to stretch the cells. There will be two sessions needed for this class.

Class Description: Are you interested in creating your own organic abstract compositions for your home? With two dates, students will be able to create and take home two canvases 9 x 12.”

Diane is an abstract fluid artist with several years of experience using acrylics as her medium. Learn how to create a mesmerizing straight pour painting using metallic acrylics in color combinations that will work in any home. The blending of these colors turns out amazing. This will be a guided two-part class working towards a mixed media outcome using metallic and other acrylic markers to highlight and create your own unique style and artistic interruption. Students may bring in other organic materials for the second phase of the class such as glass and natural materials that have been found and kept for some later creative purpose.

Date for Class: Wednesday, Dec. 4, 1 to 4 p.m. Second class is Monday, Dec. 9, 9 a.m. to noon.

Materials the Instructor Will Provide: All materials.

Materials Participants to Bring: Students should wear “appropriate clothing.” You may bring tools to scrape off paint such as palette knives, small scrapers of any sort, but not required. You may also bring organic materials such as glass or other natural materials to include in your creation.

Silk Scarf Class Returning on December 12

Class Description: Instructor, Mary Gavan, from the Southern Arizona Art Guild, will be returning to teach an intermediary silk scarf class for those students who have experience from her class last year. This class will expand on the techniques learned in the original silk scarf class. If you took Mary’s class previously, you do not want to miss this class. This will be just in time for making a gift for you or someone else for the holidays!

You will be painting with special acrylic paints two 8” x 54” silk scarves. Mary will also provide a silk hankie for practice. If you want to paint more scarves, Mary will bring additional scarves for purchase ($12) on Dec. 12.

Time: 1 to 5 p.m.

Materials the Instructor Will Provide: Two silk scarves (8” x 54”), disposable apron and gloves, dyes, all materials and instructions.

Materials Participants to Bring: It is recommended that students wear “appropriate clothing” even though disposable aprons will be provided. An iron is requested to set the dye on the scarf although everyone does not need to bring an iron as we will share.

New Class: Pine Needle Wreath Ornaments—December 19

Come join your friends in making a different holiday ornament with pine needles—yes, pine needles! Utilizing pine needles is an eco-friendly art class which dates back to Native Americans who utilized natural elements around them. This beginner class will teach the basics of working with pine needles to create a holiday ornament using various holiday colors. This fun class will be on Thursday, Dec.19.

Instructor Corrine Babcock is a recent transplant to Arizona and her artistry is displayed at the Southern Arizona Art Guild in La Encantada. She works in several media including beading, wire working, and fiber arts such as pine needle creations.

Class Description: The class will include two basic stitches and methods for embellishing the basic stitches. In this 3-hour class, the student will be provided with all the materials needed to make an ornament, including the center decoration. See the photograph for example of the pine wreath ornament.

Date for Class: Thursday, Dec. 19

Time: 1 to 4 p.m.

Class Fee: $45. You must be a member of the SBR Art Club and have an Art Club account on Club Express. You will be registering for the class and paying by credit card on this new platform.

Class Size: Minimum: 3, Maximum: 8

Registration Deadline Date: Thursday, Dec. 12

Materials the Instructor Will Provide: All materials to make the pine needle wreath ornament including the holiday decoration for the center of the ornament.

Materials Participants to Bring: Please bring sharp scissors, jewelry pliers (optional), and thimbles (optional). Students can bring their own holiday decorations for the center of the ornament, if they want, provided that the center decoration does not measure greater than 2 ¼” high or wide. If the student has specific colors they want, please email the instructor at [email protected] with the special color request.
