Democratic Club Hosts Local Arizona Candidates

M.C. Nelson

The SaddleBrooke Ranch Democratic Club hosted Edgar Soto, candidate for Arizona State Senate. Edgar has lived his whole life in Southern Arizona; his family lived in Pima County since before the region was part of the USA.

He is a Marine Corps veteran. He spent the last 27 years at Pima Community College where is the Vice President of the Desert Vista Campus. Much of his work has focused on expanding opportunities for first generation and low-income students. Before his years in higher education, he was a middle school social studies teacher and longtime baseball coach. He earned the 2022 USA Baseball Developmental Coach of the year award.

Edgar also serves on several regional boards including Southern AZ Sports, Tourism and Film Authority, and First Things First Regional Council. He was selected as a Flinn-Brown Fellow in 2022.

He wants to take his experience and sense of community to the Arizona Legislature to ensure policies align with common sense values and benefit all in Arizona.

We also hosted Hollace “Holly” Lyon, SaddleBrooke resident and candidate for Arizona State House.

Holly is an Air Force veteran, former educator, and proven leader. She wants to put service, accountability, and common-sense leadership back at the center of government.

Holly began her career as a 7th grade math teacher before serving 26 years in the U.S. Air Force, rising to the rank of Colonel. During her service she commanded twice, taught future military leaders, led international communication systems negotiations among NATO countries, and helped oversee strategic planning for tens of thousands of service members worldwide.

Post Air Force retirement, she continued solving complex problems and delivering results as an IT Consultant in the D.C. area.

Holly believes Arizona deserves experienced leadership that listens, works through differences, and focuses on practical solutions that put families and communities first.
