On Sept. 16, the Democratic Club welcomed Candidate Dr Teresa Ruiz. She is a career educator, executive leader, and passionate advocate for public education. A proud Arizonan, she started in South Phoenix Public Schools and continued through Northern Arizona University before obtaining her Doctoral Degree in Higher and Postsecondary Education via Arizona State University.

She was a math teacher, an administrator, and the president of Glendale Community College, where she championed programs expanding access to higher education via workforce training and career pathways.

She understands that public education is the heart and soul of Arizona that needs to be protected.

She discussed priorities which are building a strong teacher recruitment and retention policy, early learning and pre-K, school safety, and access to mental health. Free or reduced lunches and access to tutoring and after school programs help to support kids and their families.

She knows that good schools and education bring prosperity and economic growth. States with good schools attract Fortune 500 companies that invest and boost our overall economic mobility.
