Hollywood brings out its best pictures after Thanksgiving. This practice is designed to give studios access to the larger, more adult winter audiences. It also allows the studios to maximize their Academy Award promotions. This results in better, more well-known movies for us at the DesertView Cinema Club.
Sully, a prime candidate to win multiple awards, is a perfect movie for SaddleBrooke residents. It’s a great story, uplifting without violence, sex or even bad words. Directed by Clint Eastwood, starring Tom Hanks; what more could viewers wish for? It will be at the DesertView Performing Arts Center on February 28 at 2:15 and 7 p.m.
We’ve also scheduled Deepwater Horizon for February 21. In March we’ll show The Light Between the Oceans And Queen of Katwe, the relatively unpublicized true story of a female chess champion from Uganda. Of course, we’re anxiously awaiting the availability of another big Oscar favorite, Manchester By the Sea, hopefully later in March.
