Fifty new boxes have recently been added to the SaddleBrooke Ranch (SBR) community garden and are available for rent.
The garden is located at the end of Egret Trail in Unit 4C. For experienced growers with a green thumb or for someone who just wants to try something new, this could be just what you are looking for. Arizona is known for its long growing season, so there are lots of possibilities. Each box measures 6.3 x 3.4 feet and is in a raised bed near access to water.
A box costs $50 per year. The lease agreement starts Feb. 1 and goes through Jan. 31 each year. There are 160 boxes. There is a limit of one box per household.
The area is gated, but it is available from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. from Oct. 16 to April 14 and from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. from April 15 to Oct. 15. There are a few other rules, if you are interested. More information and an application can be found on the SBR HOA website under the “Things to Do” dropdown to Community Garden.
If you haven’t seen the Community Garden yet, it is worth seeing. There are many beautiful plants and herbs growing. FYI, two households have been known to share the responsibility of maintaining a box. So, if full-time growing is out of the question or you are a snowbird, consider looking for a friend with whom to share the experience.
