Home fires account for more than 25% of all fires in the country. Given that many fires start in the kitchen with grilling or frying gone wrong, a working fire extinguisher can mean the difference between containment and calling 911.
Do you have a home fire extinguisher? Does it need to be replaced? After all, the average lifespan of a fire extinguisher is 10 to 12 years, but this assumes that the extinguisher hasn’t been broken, corroded, or otherwise damaged while you have had it. You may need to replace it sooner.
Do you know how to use your fire extinguisher?
Just remember the acronym, PASS
* PULL the pin
* AIM at the base of the fire
* SQUEEZE the handle
* SWEEP from side to side
When you do purchase an extinguisher, be sure it is rated to your needs.
