Experience the Season of Lent at Vista UMC

Rev. Mary Dotson

The season of Lent begins Wednesday, Feb. 18. Traditionally, Lent has been 40 days of solemnly considering the areas in our lives that are not living up to our calling as followers of Christ. Although I believe reflection is important in our spiritual walk this year. We will look at how Jesus’ life and ministry are meant to be good news for us all. The good news of Jesuslove, mercy, and graceis meant to bring us back to our roots, ground us in who God created us to be. It’s my prayer that as we consider the stories of Jesus and attempt to emulate Jesus and embody his teachings will become “good news” people in a world too often burdened by bad news.

Join us for our Ash Wednesday Experience, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Prayer stations will be set up in the narthex of our sanctuary. This is a self-paced time of prayer. Each station will focus on a portion of the Lord’s Prayer with a brief description. At the end of the prayer, I will be present to place the traditional marking of the cross on your hand or forehead with ashes. This is a visible reminder that we are dust and that God makes beautiful things out of dust.

Then each Sunday at 10 a.m. we welcome you to join us as we explore the good news of Jesus through his life and ministry, from the beginning at a wedding, to his teaching on what it means to be a good neighbor, choosing to love, and exploring what matters most to exploring the Cross and then Christ’s Resurrection as we look at what it means for us to be Easter People. Vista de la Montaña United Methodist Church is located at 3001 E. Miravista Lane, on the west side of Oracle Rd. just south of the Golder Ranch intersection.
