Carol Emerson
If you’ve been considering learning Tai Chi, now is the time. Through the end of the year you will receive one free private lesson when you purchase the six class package. This is a great way to jump start your practice, and you can work with either Ken or Carol Emerson; both are certified black belt instructors.
This is a $27 savings vs paying for each class as you go! Plus, having a private lesson really helps with the learning process. So whether you are new to Tai Chi or an established student, we hope you will take advantage of this opportunity. New beginning classes start each month.
Health Benefits
As we age, we have to work harder to maintain our flexibility and strength. However, as we age it gets more difficult to do the kinds of exercise we used to do. Tai Chi provides options for moving, stretching and strengthening the body that are not strenuous. It engages the entire body with gentle, flowing movements. A consistent Tai Chi practice improves muscular strength, balance and postural control. Studies show that older adults who practice Tai Chi are half as likely to fall as people of similar age who do not exercise.
Tai Chi also helps reduce tension and pain. Most people carry tension in their bodies without even being aware of it. Tension causes pain. Working at the computer is particularly hard on the upper shoulders and neck. The deep relaxed breathing, slow, gentle movements and meditative nature of Tai Chi work together to help relieve pain.
Recent studies indicate that Tai Chi benefits people suffering from depression, arthritis, high blood pressure and Parkinson’s; it is also part of many cardiac rehabilitation programs.
Other Benefits
Tai Chi challenges the brain to learn new ways of moving and new sequences of movement. While this can be somewhat difficult initially, the satisfaction that comes from the effort can be quite gratifying, especially to the “over-achievers” among us. It also helps keep the mind sharp!
