The SaddleBrooke Ranch (SBR) Hiking Club recently wrapped up a successful fall, winter, and spring schedule of hikes in the local area. The club conducted dozens of hikes, ranging from short fitness walks on flat, smooth terrain, to much more challenging hikes on some of the most difficult trails in the area. The club does not schedule many hikes during the hot summer months, but come fall, when temperatures are more conducive to hiking, several hikes for all skill and fitness levels will be offered.
The club currently has 200-plus members, with more experienced members acting as guides. Most hikes are limited to 10 hikers or fewer, and members are required to sign up in advance. Each hike has a description so that members can choose a hike that interests them and which they feel comfortable with. The description includes information such as time of departure, location of hike, length of hike, and trail difficulty. Hikers typically carpool to the trailhead, and a nominal fee for gas is paid to the volunteer drivers.
Southern Arizona has some of the best hiking trails in the country, which means that Ranch hikers have an almost unlimited variety of trails to choose from. Some of the locations the club visited recently include Oracle State Park, Catalina State Park, several sections of the Arizona Trail, the Pima Canyon Trail, the Nature Trail at the Ranch, Vistoso Trails Nature Preserve, Honey Bee Canyon Trail, Linda Vista Loop Trail, and many others. Hikes and walks can be as short as one mile or as long as 10-plus miles, and everything in between. There is literally a hike for almost everyone.
Guides organize each hike and want everyone to have a nice time, meet new people, see scenic areas in our area and, most importantly, have a safe experience. If you are interested in experiencing the scenic trails and parks in our area, and being on the trail with people who enjoy the outdoors, the Saddlebrooke Ranch Hiking Club is for you.
Interested in joining the SBR Hiking Club?
Please note that the SBR Hiking Club, like most clubs at the Ranch, used GroupWorks for scheduling hikes and communicating with members. The club is currently in the process of switching over to Google Groups for communicating with members. If you are not currently a member of the SBR Hiking Club, and you want to join, please send an email to [email protected]. Include your full name and email address. A Gmail email address is preferred, but a non-Gmail email address will work as well. You will then receive information on club specifics and be provided a waiver for you to sign and return. After receipt of the waiver you will be added to the club’s communications list. Come fall, when the conditions are favorable for hiking, you will receive information on the many hikes the club has to offer.
